Love Note #1: So. We started a business together.

(Spoiler alert, we're still married) BUT, let’s be honest: starting a business with your spouse sounds like a rom-com or a bad Tyler Perry movie waiting to happen. Half the people we tell say, “That’s so sweet!” and the other half give us the wide-eyed “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
Truth is… it’s both. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

In the beginning
The Love Jar wasn’t born in some boardroom or fancy brainstorming session. It started at our kitchen table, in the middle of real life. We were juggling kids, careers, laundry piles, and the million tiny things that make up a marriage. Somewhere along the way, we realized we needed a simple way to remind ourselves that love is in the little things. It was time to refocus.
So, we tried it: one marble, one moment. Over time, the jar filled up—and so did we. And then came the thought: What if this could help other couples too?
The Rollercoaster Ride of “Us, Inc.”
Running a business as a couple is kind of like marriage with extra spreadsheets. Some days we’re totally in sync, finishing each other’s sentences and ideas. Other days, one of us wants to work late while the other just wants tacos and Netflix (tacos usually win.)
The magic is that the same habits that make our marriage work—communication, patience, and remembering to laugh—are the ones that keep this business alive.
Why We’re Doing This
We didn’t start the Love Jar just to sell a pretty jar with marbles in it. We started it because we know what it feels like to get stuck in routine, to forget to notice each other, and to feel like you're out of options to rekindle the spark. We wanted to share something that worked for us, something that could help other couples find joy and connection in the everyday.
Our Advice If You’re Dreaming of Starting Something Together
Play to your strengths. One of us is better at big ideas, the other at the details. Together, we balance it out (most days).
Don’t take it too seriously. You’ll disagree—it’s part of the deal. Have the tough conversation, then go grab ice cream.
Celebrate the wins (big and small). Sold your first product? That’s marble-worthy! Built a website without throwing your laptop out the window? Extra marble.
Remember why you started. For us, it’s love. Always love.
At the End of the Day
The Love Jar is more than our business—it’s our reminder. Our little way of saying: we’re in this together, in business and in life.
So if you’ve ever thought about starting something with your partner—go for it. It’ll be messy, hilarious, stressful, and absolutely worthy of a Netflix special of your own.
And who knows? Maybe you’ll end up with a jar full of marbles and a story worth telling too.
